The Rolex Fastnet yacht race 2007.

Pete Goss competed in the Rolex FASTNET 2007, considered one of the world’s classic offshore races, with former Team Philips crew mates Paul Larsen and Andy Hindley.

This challenging biennial race started from Cowes and took the boats on a gruelling 608 mile course to Southern Ireland, around the infamous Fastnet rock lighthouse and back to Plymouth. With its tricky tidal currents and changeable weather conditions, the race is infamous for claiming the lives of 15 sailors in 1979.

Competitors ranged from amateur to experienced sailors and the race is believed by many to be one of the most demanding sporting events there is.

Unfortunately, the Fasnet's reputation for bad weather was once again proven when storms hit the South Coast and over 200 boats retired from the race, including Pete and the Team aboard Cornwall Playing for Success. It would have been foolhardy to press on into the exposed Celtic Sea in worsening weather and aboard one of the smallest and lightest boats in the fleet.
