Spirit of Mystery, the little wooden boat sailed by Pete Goss and his family crew to Australia last year in a re-enactment of a historic voyage 155 years ago, is to return home to Cornwall.

The 37-foot Mounts Bay lugger is currently in Port Kembla, Australia, being prepared for loading aboard a container ship bound for Holland. There she will be unloaded and finish the journey under sail to her spiritual home in Cornwall.

SPIRIT OF MYSTERY ARRIVES IN AUSTRALIA

Pete Goss and the crew of Spirit of Mystery have arrived in Melbourne Australia after an epic five-month and 11,800-mile journey.

This is a news update concerning the Spirit of Mystery, the 11 metre wooden lugger that was knocked over in the Southern Ocean on Tuesday morning injuring crewman Mark Maidment.

At about 23.30 hours GMT on Tuesday 3rd March (0930 hours boat time Wednesday 4th March), Spirit of Mystery was sailing in strong winds and high seas about 300 Nautical Miles South South-West of Kangaroo Island off Adelaide, South Australia, when she was struck by a large wave.

After just over a month at sea the little wooden lugger left the hard sailing of the unpredictable and fickle doldrums, entering the Southern Hemisphere at about 2330 hours on Friday 21 November. Pete Goss has announced his entry into the Rolex Fastnet 2007 yacht race. The Westcountry sailor and adventurer is bringing together former Team Philips crew mates Paul Larsen and Andy Hindley to join him aboard the small lightweight SeaCart 30 trimaran Cornwall Playing for Success.
